BEWARE: Graphic wound images and stitching below.
While blowing and walking backwards, my husband tripped over the
leg of our granddaughters swing set. The swing set is set in
2" white gravel. He caught his fall using his right
elbow and somehow the gravel caused a large triangular slice
in his arm, through his sweater, which was undamaged.
I used one our our granddaughter’s diapers (large, absorbent, and sterile)
held in place with an ace bandage and headed toward the hospital.
This is a photo documentation of the medical suture (14
large stitches) repair of a very nasty wound!

A diaper wrapped with an ace bandage makes a great bandage!
Here the ace bandage has been removed in preparation to clean the wound.
Getting ready to soak the wound –
A healing touch, a caring nurse washes off his
hand and arm.
The Doctor examined the inside of wound to make sure there was no
damage to anything other then the
skin and underlying muscle tissue. It was determined that there
wasn’t, thank goodness.
After setting up a sterile field, shots to numb the area in preparation for
sutures were given.
Lots of shots! Through it all the patient was a trooper!
Time to start the stitching!
This wound presents a challenge because of the size of the wound and the jagged edges.
After finding a good position for the arm, the Doctor is coming right along!
Puffiness is causing a few problems…
And we are all stitched up. All that was left was
cleaning the wound with antiseptic soap, picking up
the prescription for antibiotics and heading home in time for Dinner!
A great job by everyone!
UPDATE: ONE YEAR LATER
Not bad, huh? Sure looked worse then it turned out!
Nice Job Doc, and thanks for letting me document it all in photos!
